you're luckier than I am, in my school there was only one typography class I could take. everything else I've done was just out of sheer admiration. I think there might be a " contemporary type " class that I can take but..... ehhh. the best way to get into it is to get the books yourself. lol
dude, there is this one book that you absolutely positively have to get !!! this is were I got most of my inspiration from when it comes to type:
Typographic Systems : by Kimberly Elam. if you never listen to me for the rest of you life, it wouldn't matter as long as you got this book!! lol. there is also another called Making and Breaking the Grid. that one is really cool as well but if you were to choose, get the typographic systems.
I use to despise reading until I got into design......now one of the best gifts anyone can give me is a gift certificate to a book store. As artists were are 100% reference, so its imperative that you continue to look at images and feed the mind. sooner or later you'll start to blossom....and the best part is, thats only the beginning!!
